About this Species

Eurytides leucaspis, commonly known as the Leucaspis Swordtail, is a large and impressive butterfly of the Papilionidae family. It is found throughout South America, from Colombia to Argentina, but it is particularly common in the lowland forests of Peru.

This species is characterized by its white-to-pale-yellow wings with bold, black vertical stripes that resemble the skin of a zebra. It also has long and slender tails on the hindwings. Its appearance is a very clean and symmetrical design that makes it a favorite in many scientific and aesthetic collections.

At Kukusa, our Zebra Swordtail specimens are legally obtained and carefully preserved to maintain their natural luster and delicate structure.

Habitat

Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests and clearings. Frequent sightings in the Loreto and San Martín regions of Peru.
