About this Species

Eurytides lacandones diores is a beautiful and relatively rare member of the swordtail family native to the tropical forests of South America. This subspecies is particularly well-known in the Peruvian department of Amazonas.

Like other members of the Eurytides genus, it features exceptionally long hindwing tails. The wings are decorated with a pattern of bold black stripes on a creamy-white background, helping it blend into the high-contrast light of the rainforest canopy. It is a highly sought-after specimen for scientific studies and decorative collections due to its rarity and elegant shape.

Our specimens at Kukusa are legally obtained and prepared using professional techniques to ensure their delicate wing structures and vibrant patterns are perfectly preserved.

Habitat

Moist tropical rainforest and montane forests, from 300 to 1,200 meters. Common in the Amazonas and San Martín regions of Peru.
