About this Species

The Eighty-Eight butterflies (Callicore) are world-famous for the numerical patterns on their underwings. C. hystaspes is one of the most colourful, featuring a wide band of crimson red on the dorsal forewings.

Habitat

Often seen puddling on damp soil along forest roads and riverbanks in the Amazonian departments of Peru.
