About this Species
Battus polydamas, the Polydamas Swallowtail, is a large and striking member of the Papilionidae family. It is easy to recognize because it is one of the few 'swallowtails' that lacks tails on its hindwings.
The wings present a velvet black color with a row of crescent-shaped greenish-yellow spots along the margins. Like other members of the genus Battus, it is a toxic species that warning predators with its bold aposematic colors. It is found across the Neotropics, including the forests and gardens of the Peruvian Amazon and the Pacific coast.

Habitat
Moist tropical rainforest and montane forests, from 300 to 1,500 meters. Common across all of Peru from the coast to the jungle.
