About this Species

Perisama xanthica is a beautiful and relatively rare butterfly found in the high-altitude cloud forests of the Peruvian Andes. While its dorsal side is a deep, velvety black, its real treasure lies on the ventral side, featuring intricate red, black, and blue patterns that serve as a brilliant identification key in the wild.

Habitat

Endemic to the misty cloud forests and temperate mountain regions of Peru (Selva Alta).

Sustainability First

At Kukusa, we only deal with specimens from sustainable butterfly farms in Peru. Each purchase supports local conservation efforts and rural livelihoods.
